Bo Madden, has been selected for the England U16 Squad!
Bo, who turns 15 later this month, currently plays for the Ladies 1st Team. Bo and twin sister Hattie, joined Fylde as juniors and whilst representing the club at junior competitions, have progressed rapidly through the senior teams.
Having started playing when she was 7 years old, she loved it from the start! Her first hockey coach, Mrs Baxter instilled love and respect for the game that she still has today. Bo and her sister have been lucky enough to reach the National Schools Finals at Lee Valley twice, with Kirkham Grammar and Sedbergh Schools.
The selection process for a young England player starts with the County Development Centre. Bo and Hattie then progressed to the Fylde Performance Centre. Players are then selected to represent their regions in a national competition called Futures Cup. The girls were chosen to play in the Futures Cup in the summer – the first opportunity for England assessment.
John Bell, the England Coach, named Bo in the NAGS (National Age Group Squads) and after two further assessments at Lilleshall she had a call up for the England U16’s squad.
The hard work starts now to maintain her place and achieve team selection for the international matches coming up next year.
“It is a huge privilege to be selected for the England Hockey U16 squad, I am thrilled and so excited to get started. Thank you so much to everyone who throughout my journey has supported me, encouraged me and helped me get to where I am today.”
