Fylde Hockey Club took an U14 mixed team to the Southport Hockey Festival on Sunday 28th July.
With 11 enthusiastic players the fun began at 9am and the day would see Fylde play ten 7-aside matches, each lasting 10 minutes. The first game against Formby ended a tense 0-0 but given that the players had never played as a team before they had quickly learnt each others strengths and after a debrief with the coaches they went into the next matches confidently.
Wins followed against Preston, City of Liverpool and Northern to name but a few with goals being scored by Alyssa, Sadie, George and Eleanor. Entering the penultimate match against Warrington the emphasis was placed on scoring enough goals to increase the goal difference. Fylde achieved this with gusto finishing the match with a 9-0 victory, putting Fylde in with a chance of winning the tournament. With only one match to play the team needed a draw to win the tournament. A brilliant team action saw Alyssa score to beat Lytham St Annes 1-0 ensuring Fylde had secured the well deserved top spot.
The proud boys and girls look back at an amazing energetic team achievement and look forward to getting back on the pitch next season.
