Fylde’s first team played out an entertaining tie against Chester, scoring seven (again) and returning to the top of the league.
The game started at a frantic pace, with no less than 5 goals scored in the first 10 minutes! Josh Boyne scores his first in Fylde colours in the first minute of the game, slotting home after some fine link-up play between the new look front three of Boyne, Sam Bury and Jordan Payne. It was the younger Payne brother, Josh who got the second just two minutes later, flicking low into the bottom corner from a penalty corner. But as quickly as they had taken the lead, Chester replied with two of their own. Both were well taken, counter attacking goals and both asked questions of Fyldes lax marking at the back. Josh Payne then got his second, this time a beauty of a drag flick high into the top right hand corner. After such a busy start, the rest of the half amazingly saw no further goals, despite numerous chances for Fylde. HT 3-2
The second half saw Fylde step up a gear, and they once again showed why their forward line is one of the best in the league. Sam Bury impressed throughout with his work rate up front earning him the man of the match accolade. And it was Bury who set up Jordan Payne for his first of the game, fired home from a tight angle. Four minutes later, same combination and same end result as Payne scored Fylde’s fifth. Captain Simon Major scored his first of the season for the sixth, a fortuitous deflection definitely aiding his penalty corner strike! And there was still time for Jordan Payne to complete his hat-trick, reacting first to a rebound on a penalty corner and smashing the ball past the Chester keeper. FT7-2
Another impressive win, putting Fylde back on top spot, by virtue of goal difference. They travel away to Lancaster & Morecambe next Saturday.
