Match Reports 16 Dec 2023

Just two rearranged games before the Xmas break with the Ladies 6's getting into the festive spirit

Kirkby Stephen 2 2-0 Fylde 3

A re-arranged game at Kirkby Stephen saw Fylde 3rds travelling again into Cumbria to play a team with more adults than young players. Many of our young U15s players are on a steep learning curve and although they a relatively talented, experience can only be acquired over time.

The game overall was a tight affair with Kirkby Stephen in control. Fine displays by Lauren Appleyard and Abi Warburton helped keep the score down. Having only 12 players was not helpful as the team tired.

The game was played in the right spirit and we wished the opposition well for Xmas, and hopefully when they travel to Fylde in the new year we can even things up.

Fylde 6 Development 6-0 Leyland & Chorley Development

What a difference a week makes! Clear sunny skies and not a drop of rain in sight! Fylde 6’s played their last game before Christmas in another re-arranged match following a frozen pitch a fortnight earlier!!

Several “firsts” were achieved today in another early 10:30 start!

First time we had 16 players!

First game for new GK, Jenay Gucver, who kept a clean sheet and never touched the ball!

First goal for Michelle Finney!

First official game for young umpire Natalie Smith!

First time Club Captain Fran Loffler-Thompson has played for the opposition! This occurred, and is within the rules at this level, when a young player went off injured and Fran offered to play for them as they did not have any subs. At least she had half a game with good banter with her new Fylde opposition!

It was only 1-0 at half time but the girls came to life with superb play in the second half. More goals from Bella Coupe Carroll, Hollie Guthrie, Sophia Melling with a brace, and Leah Richmond who was directing the young team with confidence.

Such a good game with a fine win and festive feel! Hot drinks and festive food in the clubhouse afterwards and everyone went home looking forward to a good Christmas break!
