On Saturday 21st December Fylde Ladies 1s Indoor competed in the North Regional Qualifier for a place in the National League Division 2 North in January 2020.
The format of the tournament saw Fylde play Liverpool Sefton over 2 legs, with the aggregate winner taking the final spot in the 6 team competition in the New Year.
The first leg started quite shaky, with Fylde going down 1-0 quite quickly and taking some time to find their rhythm. However a quick flurry of goals saw Fylde equalise, concede and then equalise once again to go 2-2 at the break.
The second half was where Fylde really started to stamp their authority on the game, with some well worked penalty corners, and a penalty stroke being converted to make the final score 6-3.
Going into the second leg, Fylde knew they had a cushion and was more about game management. Now reduced to 7 due to injury, the ladies took their time on the ball and made Sefton work hard for opportunities on goal.
Once again, Fylde went 1 down, yet they were still able to equalise and score the decisive goal in the 2nd half to kill the game and come out 8-4 winners on aggregate.
Scorers for the day were- Sophia Crawshay (5), Leonnie Molloy (2) Vicky Rukin (1).
The indoor season gives an opportunity for us to expose some of our younger players to a new format of the game, and develop some really effective technical areas of player’s games. Qualifying for the next round is a great achievement. We hope we can use this experience to give a good account of ourselves and continue momentum into our outdoor season.
