Mens 1XI Triumphant in Preseason Tournament

Fylde Mens 1st team hosted Keswick (Cumbria) and Brigg (Lincolnshire) in their inaugural tri-county tournament.  The first game saw Fylde take on Keswick, with the hosts starting with new signings Josh Payne & Sam Bury and a first team debut for Matt Atkinson. Fylde took the lead through Simon Thomas, finishing off a flowing move. Keswick responded quickly before half time, firing a penalty corner high into the net. Second half chances were limited, with Fylde probably edging possession. However Keswick stole the win late on, with a mistake at the back ruthlessly punished by the Keswick striker. In the second match, Brigg saw off Keswick with an impressive display and some clinical finishing. Goals from James Smith (2) and Kieran Woodcock sealing a 3-0 win. The final game of the day saw a refreshed Fylde take on Brigg, needing a four goal win to take the title. Fylde had an early chance to take the lead when they were awarded a penalty stroke. However Tom fires his flick against the crossbar. Brigg probably should of capitalised, with several chances to score, but some sharp keeping by Nigel Sadler kept them at bay. Instead, Fylde went into the break 1-0 up, Jordan Payne applying the finish.

The second half was dominated by Fylde, who showed off their range of attacking options ahead of the new season. Jordan Payne bagged his second, his brother Josh Payne scored from a penalty corner and Simon Thomas tapped in from close range to complete the win.

All three teams finished on three points, with Fylde taking the title on goal difference. Big thanks to Brigg and Keswick for travelling to Mill Farm for three competitive games. We wish them well in their respective leagues this season.
