Match Reports 10 Feb 2024

The Ladies 1s back to winning ways and stay in 2nd place in Conference North. Only 2 other league games due to the half-term break.

Fylde 1 1-0 Bowdon 2

On Saturday Fylde Ladies 1st team welcomed Bowden to Mill Farm, and after last week's 2-0 defeat away at Durham, we were desperate to get back to winning ways.

Fylde dominated possession from the whistle, creating many goal scoring opportunities including several short corners, but we just couldn't put the ball in the back of the net. At half time we were told to keep playing and creating chances and a goal would come. Down the other end Bowden did little to threaten the Fylde goal, and as time ticked on a draw would have felt like a loss with the amount of chances we had created.

In the 61st minute we were awarded yet another penalty corner, and Flor Zappulla dragged the ball through the keepers legs to finally put us 1-0 up. We saw the game out without Bowden having a single shot on target, to take a fully deserved 3 points.

We still sit in the 2nd in the league, with a tough away game coming up next week away at Newcastle, who are one point behind us. Player of the game was once again a split vote, this time between goalscorer Flor Zappulla and Olivia Merrick who was solid at the back throughout.

Fylde 2 1-2 Carlisle 1

Fylde 2s were ready for a good game at home on a beautiful sunny day. At the start of the game both teams had a few chances. After Carlisle were mostly in our half, they got a short corner, which was well saved by Michelle Longton and then carried out by EJ Dunkerley. They had two more short corners which were very well defended by Fylde.

Shortly after, Fylde was attacking more and Lucy Wane hit the ball into the circle followed by a pass from Emma Savidge where Chelsea Atkinson scored. With more confidence for Fylde there were many more attacks and even a few near goals. Right before half time, Carlisle had a breakaway resulting to a short corner. This led to two more short corners resulting in a goal for Carlisle.

After half time Fylde came out strong, there were two short corners for Fylde with two good saves by Carlisle’s keeper. After this Fylde had some very good attacks and good shots on goal that were well saved and defended by Carlisle. Unfortunately, there was a break away from Carlisle resulting in a goal. After this Carlisle had a few more attacks and Fylde had another short corner and attacks with no result. Fylde kept fighting until the last minute.

Fylde 3 0-1 Wigton 1

This result showed the improvement in the Ladies 3’s squad since their 7-0 defeat earlier in the season. Fylde were unlucky not to come away with a draw but Wigton created more chances and were deserving winners overall.

A simple penetrating passing move through the middle of the pitch in the second half created their winning goal - a finely executed reverse stick strike which is so hard for a goalkeeper to read! Fylde had their chances but could not convert numerous penalty corners in the second half.

The team was missing a core of players who were away for the half term holidays, giving opportunities to others who were worthy of call-up on the day. The team gain in confidence and experience every week.
