Ladies Match Reports 28/09/19

Fylde 1XI 0-3 University of Nottingham 1XI

Investec Women's England Hockey League North Conference

The Ladies 1s were beaten by a strong University of Nottingham side 3-0 at home on Saturday in their first game of the National League season.

With all the goals coming in the first half, Fylde stepped up and displayed a strong and positive second half performance to maintain the scoreline. Fylde did create several chances throughout the game but were unable to capitalise.

With a new squad and several players making their National League debut, the L1s now look to build on the performance with an aim to secure their first win away at Alderley Edge next week.

Fylde 2XI 1-2 Garstang 1XI

North Hockey League West Division 2

The games was played largely in heavy rain with lots of effort from both teams. The squad for the second team still needs to be sorted with players going to the 1st Team and inavailability due to school fixtures. We are hoping this will happen gradually over the next two weeks.

The game started with a goal from a penalty corner which went in via a Fylde players leg. Hannah Mears again managed to construct a goal making so far three for the season before half time.

The heavy rain got worse in the second half and the players were struggling to see the ball at times. The second goal from Garstang came through the middle and was helped by a mix up between the GK and a back.

The game was hard fought by both teams and on balance Garstang deserved the win but Fylde can take a lot forward..

University of Liverpool 1XI 4-2 Fylde 3XI

North Hockey League West Division 3 North

Fylde Ladies 3rd team travelled to Liverpool Uni to play their first team. After a shaky start Liverpool took the lead early with a good goal. Fylde continued to push and a superb cross from Sophie Bridges allowed Gemma Eastham to strike an excellent goal in the top corner making it 1-1 after 15 minutes.

Liverpool continued their attack with many shots defended superbly by Mia Anderton and numerous saves by Sarah Hart making it 1-1 at half time. It wasn't long before Liverpool struck another goal making it 2-1 yet Fylde continued to work hard and an amazing final aerial touch from Rucky Mahmood made it 2-2.

Liverpool did not give in and after numerous short corners scored again making it 3-2 and again making the final score 4-2. Overall Fylde played brilliantly with all players working hard against a tough team. Hard to choose a player of the match as Mia played brilliantly and Sarah Hart made 15+ good saves so a joint MOTM.

Fylde 4XI 4-3 Clitheroe and Blackburn Northern 2XI

Lancashire Central Women's Hockey League Division 1

Ladies 4’s wanted a positive start to this season and two out of two wins is a definite way to do it! The final match of the day at home, in the pouring rain, didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits! The match against Clitheroe and Blackburn Ladies 2’s was a close matched fight, with the 4’s striving to hold onto their lead in the final minutes. Teamwork and excellent side line coaching helped them to prevail!

The result a 4-3 win with a hat trick from Sophie Bridges and a goal for Ashleigh Mills.Extremely hard to choose MOTM as every player made a concerted effort towards the win. Emily Marsh and Eve Gooderham remained solid at the back. Excellent saves from Izzy Slater. MOTM goes to Eve Gooderham for reading the game and making expert interceptions! .

Southport 2XI 4-1 Fylde 5XI

Lancashire Central Women's Hockey League Division 2

Fylde did well to field five ladies’ teams on Saturday following a spate of player shortages, injuries and early start times. The Fylde 5th Team travelled to play Southport 2 at noon and were defeated 4-1. This was a fair result on the day. Key players were missing from last week’s team and once again the new youngsters blended well in a changed line-up. Youngster, Scarlett Turnock, netted a fine penalty stroke to reduce the deficit but an enjoyable game was had by all!
